About 'primary health care vs primary care'|...people knew that "free people can take care of themselves better than government can.... 21:40 Relating to state vs. federal law - this is an...








Savannah,               Georgia               --               The               last               time               Georgia               had               a               Democratic               senator               was               back               in               2003               with               Max               Cleland.

Since               then,               the               Republicans               have               held               a               firm               grip               on               Georgia's               two               senate               seats.

However,               Georgia               Labor               Commissioner               Michael               Thurmond               and               political               hopeful               RJ               Hadley               are               looking               to               change               that,               going               head               to               head               in               the               July               20               Georgia               Democratic               Senate               primary.

Michael               Thurmond               was               courted               by               the               Democratic               party               and               officially               entered               the               race               for               the               primary               in               April               2010.

He               has               served               as               Labor               Commissioner               for               Georgia               since               1998               and               prior               to               that,               Thurmond               was               a               representative               in               the               Georgia               General               Assembly               (1986-1998).

In               1994,               during               his               tenure               as               a               Georgia               Assemblyman,               Thurmond               pioneered               the               "WorkFirst"               program               meant               to               help               welfare-dependent               families               get               off               welfare.

According               to               Jobs               for               America's               Graduates               Inc.,               Thurmond's               "WorkFirst"               program               has               helped               more               than               90,000               families               to               move               off               the               welfare               rolls,               saving               Georgia               taxpayers               200               million               dollars               which               were               then               reinvested               into               childcare,               training,               and               other               support               services.

With               a               work               record               like               that,               it               is               no               surprise               the               Democratic               Party               of               Georgia               would               tap               him               on               the               shoulder               to               go               up               against               incumbent               Johnny               Isakson.

The               economy               and               job               creation/retention               are               very               important               issues               with               the               recession               and               rampant               joblessness.

Following               Thurmond's               choice               to               enter               the               race,               a               Rasmussen               report               gave               out               figures               of               a               14%               favorable               view               versus               a               14%               unfavorable               view               of               Thurmond               among               those               polled.

It               included               a               number               of               23%               for               those               who               did               not               know               enough               about               him               to               form               a               strong               opinion.
               In               stark               contrast               is               RJ               Hadley.

Hadley               announced               his               intention               to               run               for               Isakson's               senator               spot               back               in               October               of               2009.

However,               while               Thurmond               has               a               proven               track               record               of               being               involved               in               Georgia               politics,               Hadley               does               not.

According               to               his               website,               he               is               a               lifelong               Democrat,               but               instead               of               going               into               politics,               Hadley               took               his               degree               from               Dartmouth               and               became               a               juvenile               court               social               worker.

From               there,               he               became               a               software               developer               which               gave               him               the               opportunity               to               work               in               Europe.

Hadley               appears               to               see               his               lack               of               experience               in               the               political               arena               as               a               plus               saying:               "Regardless               of               party               ideology,               it               seems               that               public               service               today               is               more               about               positioning               for               power               and               less               about               the               people....I               am               running               because               I               believe               we               must               aspire               to               government               for               the               people               over               government               for               the               wealthiest               and               most               powerful."               (RJ               Hadley               for               US               Senate).
               Both               men               face               an               uphill               battle               as               Georgia               is               currently               a               Republican               playground               with               the               Republicans               controlling               both               sections               of               Congress               in               Georgia.
               Both               gentlemen               appear               to               have               very               similar               views               on               the               hot               button               issues               such               as               education,               jobs,               health               care               reform,               and               the               War               on               Terror,               so               it               really               seems               as               if               it               will               come               down               almost               exclusively               to               who               the               voting               public               think               they               can               trust.

RJ               Hadley               is               visiting               as               many               areas               of               Georgia               as               he               can               (he               recently               visited               Savannah)               in               an               attempt               to               make               himself               the               household               name               Thurmond               already               is.

RJ               is               also               making               heavy               use               of               social               media,               such               as               Twitter,               Facebook,               and               LinkedIN,               following               the               example               of               President               Barak               Obama               by               reaching               people               where               they               are               now,               online.

Once               again,               this               is               a               direct               contrast               to               Thurmond               who               does               not               appear               to               have               much               in               the               way               of               an               online               presence               at               all.
               Thurmond               and               Hadley               have               until               the               20th               of               July               to               earn               the               recognition               and               hearts               of               Georgia               voters.

Only               then               can               they               truly               start               looking               toward               unseating               Isakson.
